U.S. daylight saving time ends Nov. 1: When clocks turn back

Most of the U.S. turns clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, 2026. Hawaii and most of Arizona do not change clocks.

Under the current U.S. rule, daylight saving time ends at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November. In 2026, that date is November 1. The clock returns to standard time, so the 1 a.m. hour happens twice.

Does every state change clocks?

No. Hawaii and most of Arizona stay on standard time year-round. The Navajo Nation in Arizona does observe daylight saving time. U.S. territories that do not observe it include American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

What should I check?

Phones and computers set to automatic time usually follow their local time-zone rules. Check wall clocks, car clocks and alarms that do not update automatically on Sunday morning.
