Phone charging slowly? Don’t buy a new charger yet.

Near 80%, hot to the touch, or slow from the start? Each points to a different first check.

Slow near 80%? Check the battery setting

Some phones deliberately slow or pause the final stretch. iPhone can slow charging above about 80%; Pixel Adaptive Charging can delay the last part; Galaxy Battery Protection can stop at a selected limit. Check Settings → Battery for a charge limit or protection setting before changing accessories.

Phone feels hot? Let it cool before trying again

Pause games and video, move the phone out of direct sun, and let it cool at room temperature. Heat can slow or pause charging to protect the battery. If the port is wet, a cable is damaged, or the connector becomes hot, unplug it and follow the maker’s support instructions.

Slow from the start? Test the cable and adapter separately

Plug into a working wall outlet instead of a laptop or USB hub. Try a known-good cable and a compatible adapter one at a time. Fast charging depends on what the phone supports and whether the cable and adapter match; a higher watt number alone does not guarantee a faster charge. For wireless charging, realign the phone and remove a thick case or metal accessories.

Still slow? If it stays slow with compatible, known-good accessories after cooling, or the port looks damaged, stop guessing and use the maker’s diagnostics or service.
