Trump approval: Why one poll says 29% and another 32%

One poll puts Donald Trump below 30%; another, taken on almost the same days, says 32%.

American Research Group found 29% approved of Trump’s job performance, 68% disapproved and 3% were undecided. It reports a sampling margin of error of about 3 percentage points.

The Reuters/Ipsos survey used its probability-based KnowledgePanel. It found 32% approval and 66% disapproval, with a reported margin of error of 2.8 points for all respondents.

Both polls asked whether adults approved of the way Trump was handling his job as president, and their field dates overlap. They surveyed different people using different methods. A three-point gap, about the size of either poll’s reported sampling margin, does not by itself show that opinion shifted or establish which estimate is exact.

ARG’s own series was 37% in September 2025, 30% in August 2026 and 29% this month: an eight-point drop in a year, but one point since last month. That is one pollster’s measure, not a forecast of November’s vote.
