Check OpenAI’s live status, then use three quick tests to separate an outage from a browser or network problem.

Is ChatGPT down, or is something interrupting your connection? Check the OpenAI Status page for ChatGPT and Login first. If an incident is open, follow its updates before changing settings or reinstalling anything.

If the page looks clear, that still does not rule out a problem affecting one account or feature. OpenAI reports availability across plans, models and error types in aggregate.

Try a new chat and a private window

Refresh the page or reopen the app. If only one conversation is stuck, keep it and test a new chat. If that does not help, open ChatGPT in a private window or another browser. If it works there, an extension or content blocker may be interfering.

Compare another network

Try the same account on mobile data or another trusted network. If ChatGPT works there but not on work or school Wi-Fi, a VPN, security filter or network rule may be involved. Ask the network administrator rather than bypassing its controls.

Note the exact message and time. If it also fails in another browser and on another network, contact OpenAI Help Center. A green status page cannot rule out every individual problem.
