Gemini not working? “Something went wrong” may be an access issue.
Before clearing data or reinstalling, check the Google Account you used.
Google says “Something went wrong” can appear when an account cannot use Gemini because of its location, age or account type.
Check which account you’re using
A personal Google Account must meet the local age requirement. A work account needs a qualifying Google Workspace plan and Gemini access enabled by its administrator. School access can also depend on the institution’s settings. A Google Account managed with Family Link cannot use the Gemini web app.
If it is a work or school account, ask the administrator to confirm access. A personal account working in the same browser while the managed account fails points to an account-access difference; it does not prove a service outage.
Check location and browser support
Gemini web access depends on the supported country and language list. Google lists Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera and Edge as supported browsers. Check the current list for your location and use a supported browser before changing account settings.
A usage limit is a different problem
If Gemini says you reached a limit, that is not the same as “Something went wrong.” Google says limits can depend on the model, features, prompt complexity and chat length; plan limits can also include a weekly cap. Check the current limit notice in your account rather than treating it as an outage.
If the account, location and browser all meet Google’s current requirements but the error persists, use Gemini’s in-app feedback path. Review what will be included before sending; Google says submitted feedback can include the associated conversation and uploaded content.
Google’s supported countries, plans and limits can change. The official help pages show the current requirements.
